Addiction is a complex and challenging condition that affects not only the individual struggling with it, but also their loved ones and their daily functioning. Specialized supports are available to individuals who are struggling with a wide range of addictions, including sex addiction, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, gambling addiction, gaming addiction, internet addiction, shopping addiction, and work addiction.

Sex addiction, also known as hypersexual disorder, is characterized by a persistent pattern of compulsive sexual behavior. This can include excessive masturbation, frequent use of pornography, multiple extramarital affairs, and risky sexual behaviors. People with sex addiction may feel intense shame and guilt about their behavior, and may struggle to control their urges, even when they understand the negative consequences of their actions.

Drug addiction, also known as substance use disorder, involves the use of drugs in a way that impairs an individual’s ability to function in daily life. This can include illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines, as well as prescription drugs and alcohol. Individuals with drug addiction may experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop using the drug, and may continue to use it despite the harm it causes to their physical and mental health, as well as to their relationships and financial well-being.

Alcohol addiction, also known as alcoholism, is characterized by a strong physical and emotional dependence on alcohol. Individuals with alcohol addiction may experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking, including tremors, hallucinations, and seizures. They may continue to drink despite the harm it causes to their physical and mental health, as well as to their relationships and daily functioning.

Gambling addiction, also known as compulsive gambling, is characterized by a persistent pattern of gambling behavior that impairs an individual’s ability to function in daily life. This can include excessive gambling, betting beyond one’s means, and engaging in risky behaviors to finance gambling. Individuals with gambling addiction may experience feelings of guilt, shame, and despair as a result of their behavior.

Gaming addiction, also known as internet gaming disorder, is characterized by excessive and compulsive use of computer and video games. This can include playing games for long periods of time, neglecting other responsibilities and social obligations, and experiencing withdrawal symptoms when not playing. Gaming addiction can have a significant impact on an individual’s physical and mental health, as well as on their relationships and daily functioning.

Internet addiction, also known as internet use disorder, is characterized by excessive use of the internet that interferes with daily functioning. This can include compulsive internet use, including spending excessive time on social media, online gaming, or surfing the web. Individuals with internet addiction may experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop using the internet and may continue to use it despite the negative consequences it causes in their daily lives.

Shopping addiction, also known as compulsive buying disorder, is characterized by excessive and compulsive buying behavior that impairs an individual’s ability to function in daily life. This can include buying unnecessary items, spending beyond one’s means, and feeling an emotional high from buying new things. Individuals with shopping addiction may experience feelings of guilt, shame, and despair as a result of their behavior.

Work addiction, also known as workaholism, is characterized by excessive and compulsive work behavior that impairs an individual’s ability to function in daily life.
